From Izmir to the World

Dr. Baris Demiralay’s path has never followed a single straight line — and that, in many ways, is the point. Trained as both a physician and a clinical psychologist, he has spent more than twenty years moving between countries, languages, and disciplines in pursuit of a single question: how does the mind heal?

His journey began in İzmir, Turkey, where an early fascination with the biology of the brain gave way to a deeper interest in the human experience behind it. From there, the path led to Moscow, Russia, where he trained and practiced within a healthcare system built on rigor and resilience — and on to Naples, Italy, where he joined II. A lecturer in its doctoral program in clinical psychology, teaching the next generation of clinicians while continuing his own research.

Along the way, he has held roles as a physician-scientist and international director, working across academic, clinical, and public health settings before establishing his current practice and research base in New York City.

Today, Dr. Demiralay works fluently across English, Russian, Turkish, and Uzbek — a reflection of a career built on listening carefully, wherever that listening needs to happen. That global, cross-cultural grounding shapes everything he writes, researches, and teaches through the Demiralay Institute.
